Volunteer in a Way That Fits Your Life

The Town Sage Says...

Sharing your time can take many forms. Some people enjoy greeting visitors; others prefer making calls, preparing materials, or helping with a short project. A role should fit what you want to offer and the time you actually have.

Ask about the work, training, supervision, and expected commitment before agreeing. Be clear about tasks you do not want to do. A trial shift or occasional assignment may be more suitable than a weekly obligation. Your contribution does not have to be large to be welcome, and you are allowed to change your availability.

Try this: Ask one organization whether it has a small, clearly defined volunteer role.
